Week 35 (Cauayan)

Maayong HAPON!

So my time is always short I apologize but today two of our investigators got married and then we had a reception at the church and then later in the afternoon one of the members is having her 18th birthday (debut) at the church so we're going to attend :) church got decorated and redecorated haha. I'll send some of the pictures of the wedding. It was kind of really stressful but all worth it when we saw the smiling faces of Andy and Aileen and their family members. It was cool cause this wedding was the first time their families got to meet each other and they aren't members so you know missionary opportunity ;) Everything went great!

This week we spent a lot of time with the senior missionaries going to less active families and families who are preparing to go to the temple. We also did a service project for an less active family in the mountains. And we made food and had a boodlefight :D It's really difficult for this family because they attended the special sacrament meeting when the mountains was an elders area (they pulled out in Feb cause we are lacking in missionaries). But now there is no special sacrament and they don't have the ability to get down to cauayan proper to go to church. So we continue to visit them and remind them of our love for them and hopefully God will bless them through their faith and works so they can come to church or the special sacrament will return in Tuyom (mountain area). The tatay (father) of the family is a miracle to me because everyday he hikes in and out of the mountains to go work in a sugar cane field. But he can barely walk. His hands are gnarled from using walking sticks and he doesn't wear slippers (flip flops) because it hurts his feet more than just having bare feet. But despite his physical afflictions he would attend that special sacrament meeting every Sunday. The YSA (young single adults) are a huge help to us in the missionary work and to their branch. I have a lot of respect and love for them.

One thing I want to let you in on was when we visited a family who went to the temple this last week. We visited them with Elder and Sister Willis and Sister Davis. She was bursting with such real joy and happiness and tears came from her eyes and it was just amazing to see. We then visited another older couple who are preparing to go in June. Sister Davis said that when she first met them, the brother wasn't really sure about going to the temple but in our meeting with them he kept saying how excited he was to go and I could see how ready they are to go!!! Elder Willis summed it up when he said "this is what it's all about, getting families to go to the temple and be sealed" The temple is the best thing ever. I encourage you all to go the temple frequently! It's such a blessing in the states that we have the means and are close to the House of the Lord! That's the first thing I will do in March :P go to the temple. The blessings we receive there are unexplainable.

Anyway love you all! Until next week!

"boodle fight" is a meal that dispenses with cutlery and dishes. Diners instead practice kamayan, Filipino for "eating with the hands". The food is placed on top of a long banana leaf-lined trestle table...  diners do not sit in chairs.
