Week 29 (Binalbagan)
WOW THIS WEEK WAS FANTABULOUS
So much happened this week and I don't know how to explain and I'm sure I'll forget things but here's some highlights:
General Conference: I LOVE GENERAL CONFERENCE. I felt so much love and spirit that I never wanted to leave the church building. But then I remembered that there are people out there who haven't felt that feeling and I need to help them find it. I noticed themes of revelation, pure love, and sustaining our new prophet. My favorite talks were given by Elder Lynn G. Robbins and Elder Larry Y. Wilson and President Russell M. Nelson and President Dallin H. Oaks and Elder Massimo De Feo and well I really loved all of them. My questions were thoroughly answered about listening to the Holy Ghost and receiving revelation. My heart was opened by the talks about pure love and our divine nature as children of a loving Heavenly Father. And I was inspired by the talks about failure and success and how small and simple things bring about great things. I wish I could just copy and paste my notes here ;) but I want to testify to you all that I know President Russell M. Nelson is our living prophet today. He has been called by Jesus Christ to lead His church in these days. He holds the power and authority of the priesthood to guide us through these challenging times. I know if you apply these talks in your life, you will become a stronger individual and we collectively will become stronger and more united as the one fold of God. That's why I'm out here in the Philippines :P I'm inviting others to come join the fold of God through baptism and confirmation into Christ's restored church upon the earth.
Tatay Domingo: So my favorite investigator this week is the wife of Tatay Domingo. Tatay is a member as of 2016 and faithfully attends church every Sunday. Recently, we hadn't seen him in a while so Bishop, his wife, the RS president, a brother from the ward and us missionaries went to his house on a rescue mission. He wasn't there but Sister Ronquillo and I at least learned where his house was. Tuesday morning we visited him and his wife and discovered he had been working in the fields (he is over 70 years old!!!!) but said he would come back to church. We got to know the couple better and enjoyed some laughs and I felt so much love and good spirit in their home. We asked if we could teach Nanay Domingo, Tatay said that she had been taught before but the missionary was kind of soplada (like sassy and bold) so nanay didn't want to listen. We listened to her concerns and began to address them. For example tatay would go to church at 6 in the morning even though church starts at 9 and ends at 12 so nanay missed him because he was gone for so long. We invited her to attend church with tatay.
Something funny that happened while we were teaching was, while I was talking, tatay interrupted and commented on how nice my speaking was (he's such a sweet old man, can I adopt him as a grandparent?), and nanay told him to be quiet because she was trying to listen and he was being loud 😂 anyway I just love them so much and look forward to visiting them.
Easter: Since Philippines is a mostly Catholic country, they focus more on Holy Week than Easter Sunday. They have processions on Good Friday and sometimes inflict pain on themselves (whipping or crucifying) like Christ suffered. I'm grateful for the Resurrection of Christ, that because he conquered death we will all be resurrected and enjoy perfected bodies that don't experience pain or sorrow.
So they don't dye Easter eggs out here but I love coloring eggs so last P day I bought food coloring and we colored eggs on Thursday to bring to a members house that night (this member family feeds us every Thursday and I'm so grateful to them). They were super excited and didn't want to eat them because they were too pretty. But I was like no that's the point you gotta eat the egg haha. Their 6yr old son asked me to make him color itlog (egg) for his birthday later in the month :P
Food: I ate chicken liver. and this fruit called a Pomelo. It's structure is that of an orange but it's the size of a small soccer ball and green and the inside fruit is pink/white and it tastes like a pomegranate. 10/10 would recommend.
Love you all! Thank you always for your prayers!
