Week 46 (Cauayan)
Maayong aga sa inyo!
Is your faith stronger than the rain? I hope so. That's a question or a phrase they say a lot here. It's been pretty cold and rainy (like home except the cold here is 77-83 degrees) and a lot of people have been deterred from coming to church because of it. They tell you that if the rain is strong, your faith has to be stronger.
So we had a fun P day in Kabankalan last week! It was kind of a continuation of my birthday cause Monday here was Sunday (my birthday) in America so. Kabankalan was having a charter festival and each barangay (like neighborhood) made a little building out of bamboo, I took some pictures of some of them. And they were all selling fruits and veggies and I tried the spiky looking one call rambutan, it's so good! We had a lot of fun and we had to keep Elder Willis from buying everything. He did put an offer on the carabao (buffalo) horns that you see in the pictures. He was trying to figure out how to take it home haha. I bought a few of the little seashell statue things, they were really cute :) my companion and I finally got to buy groceries and things we need that are not available in Cauayan so that was great. And we even saw one of our investigators, Latif, in Kabankalan!
We had a chance to teach a group of kids this week that included siblings of Romnick (preparing to serve a mission), his cousins, and their friends/neighbors. I took a video of them singing "Ako Anak sang Dios" or I am a Child of God. They really enjoyed learning about Christ and Heavenly Father and their purpose in helping families be together forever and return to Their presence. We are hoping to visit their families and be able to bring the light and joy of the gospel to their whole family. The gospel does amazing things to our lives!
This week we also taught one of our investigators about the Word of Wisdom. He has a smoking problem but he has the desire to stop but he doubts his ability to do so. We taught him that if he has the desire to stop and faith that Christ will help him then nothing is impossible. We helped him make a plan to stop. This investigators' father was sitting nearby and asked if we could also help him to live the Word of Wisdom. He has problems with everything except drugs and tea but we told him if he wants to stop we will help him make a plan too. The Word of Wisdom is so important. If God created us, then of course He knows what is good and bad for our bodies. When He gives us a commandment it isn't to make things hard for us or for us not to have any fun, it is for our protection and safety and to help us be prepared to come in to His kingdom.
