Week 11 (Binalbagan)
Maayong udto!
Last week and this week are so busy! We traveled to Bacolod last week for zone conference, where I got to see Sister Burkhardt, Elder Yancey, and Elder Keller. I was so glad to see them and talk with them even just briefly! I was so so sad to have missed Sister Hostetter, who had zone conference the day before. (If you're reading this I miss you guys lots!!!) Then my companion is a Sister Training Leader so we are in Bacolod right now for a training meeting, I get to just come along for the ride. They have McDonalds and Jollibee here, which of course is American food (plus rice) but's considered high class. Like they open the door for you when you walk in and you don't throw away your own trash. Crazy right? (See the pictures)
So this week, Mary Rose (9) and Rizal (14) were baptized. After their baptism, they get to share a short testimony and it was so sweet. Rizal thanked us for teaching him, and then thanked Joseph Smith and Thomas S. Monson for being prophets. Mary Rose said she felt happy and that baptism is so our sins can be washed away. Some youth from the ward attended their baptism, and we appreciated their support to these two siblings. I hope that they will continue to remember Christ everyday.
In the pictures you'll see us eating with a family in a very nice house. This is the Tan family. My trainer had only met them once before but we decided to try and teach them. The parents own stores in the market so they are busy all day, but we managed to come at just the right time in the evening that the two teenage kids let us in and then the parents got home just after we sat down. They all sat and listened and asked questions and we have really awesome discussions about the gospel. They even fed us dinner on Saturday and it was namit-gid! The father speaks English when he notices I don't understand and I appreciate it very much. The last lesson we had, the father explained that they let us in to their home because they are very busy people, and they had begun to forget Christ in their lives. They appreciated us teaching them about Christ to help them always remember him. The Spirit was so awesome! I really hope that they will find time to come to church and accept this gospel in their lives. I know it would be such a blessing to them.
This week I came across a gem in the scriptures. Matthew 23:27-28. My companion and I had a good laugh and I want you to see it with your own eyes so I'll let you look that one up. It's the beauty on the inside that counts, never be afraid to let your light shine to those around you. It takes basically no effort to just smile at someone you pass on the street or at school. But it can really make all the difference. Mangin mas maayo adlaw-adlaw! (Become better everyday)
Love you all!
