Week 43 (Cauayan)

Maayong udto sa inyo tanan!

Brother Victor, Brother Bernard, and Brother Kenneth (our branch mission leader) left to work in Manila this week and we were sad about it but glad they have a new adventure ahead of them. They stopped by our house for a Book of Mormon before they left and we took some pictures.

On Sunday, Elder Willis and a brother from the branch came with us to an inactive member's home to give her a priesthood blessing. This sister was baptized in Inayawan when she was 9 and then moved to Cauayan and fell inactive. She has a husband and has 5 kids. We continually invite her to come back to church and she always says "I'll try but I don't know". She has had a sickness for multiple years and the medicine and doctor visits have done nothing to help her. The Spirit was strong in their humble home as Elder Willis blessed her to be healed and to have the strength to raise her children and to know her needs and health are important to Heavenly Father. Even though he spoke English and the sister probably didn't understand, she felt the Spirit. She began to cry and thanked us over and over. She looked Sister Nanlabi and I in the eyes and said she will come to church. I'm so grateful for the power of the priesthood and the miracles it can do for God's children. I translated to her what Elder Willis said and I felt that it wasn't Elder Willis's words but that of our Father in Heaven. I hope this sister remembers what she felt and will return to activity in the church so she can further enjoy the blessings of the gospel.

Another thing that stood out to me this week was when we went to a less-active brother's home and taught him about the temple and the plan of salvation. He used to be super active and would always work with the missionaries. But somewhere along the line, he fell inactive. As we taught about the spirit world and how we have the chance in temples to help them with their ordinance work, I could see his interest spark. He spoke his mind about how there are some things he needs to change in life in order to be truly worthy to enter the temple and help his ancestors and others who have passed on. It was cool to see how his desire to help others is helping him have a stronger desire to go to the temple and become active in the church.

We also got to meet our new mission president in a multi zone meeting on Friday! He and his wife didn't have the opportunity to serve in their youth and I'm sure they are excited and a little overwhelmed but I know they will do great! They also came to our house Sunday afternoon to do a house inspection. We had an hour notice so we cleaned and I cleaned out one of those forbidden cabinets that you don't want to open. I saw mice skeletons and some that were half decomposing, I have seen things I never wanted to see. Anyway, until next week. Halong kamo!

Sister Bingham

Until recently she's been buying shampoo in packets.  She now has permission to go to the nearest city to stock up on some items unavailable in her area.  This city also just got a McDonald's where she ate a "Eggdesal with sausage"  It's like a McMuffin, but they don't have actual mcmuffins.
