Week 45 (Cauayan)

Maayong aga !!!!

Thank you for all the birthday wishes! This was definitely one of the best birthdays I've had :) Yesterday at church, Seny May and Rosalinda received the gift of the Holy Ghost. I can testify to you all that the gift of the Holy Ghost is the best gift I received and I am grateful for the guidance and protection of the Holy Ghost in my life. One of our investigators who came to church told us she loved it so much she wants to come every week! She told us her husband was going to come, he had gotten ready and everything, but last minute got called to work. But he'll come next week! I'm so so happy for all of them!

We also taught temple prep class which has grown in attendance since I first got here. There were two brothers and one couple who were supposed to go to the temple this week but there was a problem somewhere and they got rescheduled to August. Elder and Sister Willis came with us as we went to their homes and had to break the news. I was a little nervous because I know they've all been waiting a long time to be able to go to the temple. But to my surprise, they each took it with patient and humble submissiveness. The couple told us they knew it is important that they just continue to prepare for the temple. One of the brothers told us he expected it because the weather has been stormy so maybe they wouldn't go this week. Regardless, I am grateful that despite this trial, they will continue to press forward and prepare. I love teaching temple prep class because I get so excited for other who will go for the first time and receive the blessings and ordinances available there. I also get a better understanding of the temple and how I can prepare to return to the temple. (That's the first thing I will do in March 2019).

Seny May's baptism went great! I especially loved her sweet testimony about how her friend gave her a Book of Mormon and invited her to "testing" and go to the Mormon church. She talked about how she loved it and learned so much and gained a testimony as she continues to pray, read the Book of Mormon, and go to church. She knows Joseph Smith is a prophet and President Russell M. Nelson is our living prophet. She testified of the Book of Mormon and that this is  Christ's true church upon the earth. I'm so happy for her!!!!!

Also, in short. One thing I learned this week was about faith. There are two kinds of faith according to President Boyd K. Packer : one is like a scheduled faith, it comes by experience. Even though the dark of night comes, we have faith that the day will come because we've experienced it before. The other type of faith is more rare and very powerful. I think it is the faith that can move mountains. It's when we don't know what will happen in the future but we trust and have faith in God when we ask for something. Here is our experience: Sister Nanlabi prayed in faith that we would find 10 new investigators in one day. This really required that we act in faith. We reached 9. There was one more person that would have made 10 but he left before we started the lesson. But it was crazy to us that God placed them in our path so we could teach them. The other part was we were in a really mountainous part of our area and it was about 7pm which is dark and no more tricycles. We also weren't on the main road so no ceres buses or jeepneys. I didn't know how we would get home but I prayed calling on my faith. I trusted Heavenly Father that he would help us get home safely. After waiting for close to an hour. A TAXI CAME DOWN FROM THE MOUNTAINS. Now maybe you don't understand what that means. They have taxis in the cities but Cauayan IS NOT A CITY. We were so shook but gratefully entered the car and headed towards home. We discovered he was from Bacolod but had been hired to drive someone to Cauayan that day and was now heading back to Bacolod. He also refused to let us pay him. The odds of that happening are next to nothing but with God everything is possible. I know he protects his missionaries :)

Sorry this is so long but I made a new friend this week. His name is Greg, and he's 3 years old but looks like he's 5 because he's so tall. We played legos and basketball while my companion talked to his dad with occasional comments from me. We visited them again yesterday (shout out to his dad who remembered my birthday) Greg grabbed my hand and brought us to where his dad was and then sat next to me when we sat down. Best buds :)

Love you all until you next week!
