Week 56 (Bacolod)
Maayong aga sa inyo tanan!
So I have now spent my first week in the center of Bacolod City. It is quite different from the bukid. Not to mention that this area is maybe like 1/10 the size of my last area.
GENERAL CONFERENCE: So here we are a little behind on that whole wagon but IT WAS SO UPLIFTING. I wish I could just share everything I learned and felt but you can just go see it here :) https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2018/10?lang=eng
October 2018 General Conference Talks - lds.org
General conferences are the semiannual worldwide gatherings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Church members gather to receive guidance and encouragement from Church leaders about gospel living based on the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Saturday Morning Session was probably my favorite. I loved the talk of Elder Rasband about fear and how we can overcome that fear by standing in holy places, being not troubled by finding peace in Christ, and trusting the Lord in His promises. I loved how President Oaks outlined eternal truths of the gospel in a simple but elegant way. And I really loved Elder Bednar's talk and visuals about gathering together in one all things in Christ!!!! And of course, as a missionary, I fully support Elder Soares talk about helping new members "merge" into the valiant force that is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We need to embrace our brothers and sisters and always be a friend and resource to them as they make the necessary changes in their life to be more in harmony with the gospel of Jesus Christ. And of course, I loved our beloved Prophet said about course correcting the name of this church. It is not the Mormon church, nor do we worship Mormon. Nor is it the Church of Latter Day Saints or the Church of Joseph Smith. But this is THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS. That's what the Lord decreed His church to be called, and that's how we should call it.
We saw lots of cool things happen this week! We contacted a lot of referrals and they were all golden! They have such a desire to seek truth or they know this is already the truth (thanks to family members or friends or neighbors who consistently live the gospel and invite them to come to church or listen to the missionaries) and have a desire to be baptized. I met some really cool people and am excited to get to know them better!
I do still miss people in Cauayan, but just as an update. Sister Campbell informed me that Brother Benjie attended ALL 4 SESSIONS of General Conference and now has a baptismal date for Nov 10. I'm so excited and proud of him! Also excited that Sister Marilyn is living the Word of Wisdom without complaint! And that Sister Erna will be baptized this week! I'm so grateful for getting to be a part of their journey.
Fun story: So my mom sent these things called Nuum and they are like Airborne sort of. You put them in a glass of water and they dissolve and are good for hydrating and replacing electrolytes. However, the flavor is very weak and so somehow we decided to just eat one straight....So we each took a tropical flavored Nuum and just popped it in our mouths. "Exhilarating. Thrilling. Full of excitement. I felt like I had a firecracker in my mouth. 10/10 would recommend" ~Sister Clarke.
Sister Clarke and I made a motto for our companionship: THE KINGDOM OF GOD OR NOTHING: ALL IN OR ALL OUT? The kingdom of God or nothing is from President John Taylor.
Anyway, thank you all for prayers and thoughts! Palangga gid ko kamo! Halong gid ! Pick at least a few things from General Conference to apply in your life! There is something there for everyone! I testify that President Russell M. Nelson IS the Lord's chosen Prophet. He speaks to us not from his own will but from the mind and will of the Lord Jesus Christ for us. We are so blessed to live in this dispensation and I pray that each of us, myself included, will better search for a way we can strengthen our testimonies and conversion to our Savior and to do the same for those around us, especially within our families. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is Christ's church and He stands at the head, directing and guiding with His loving and scarred hands. All He does is for us to progress and become something better than we were before. I love my Savior and I love His gospel. I love being a missionary and helping others find the truth and feel the love of Christ and of our Father in Heaven. I can't imagine living without this knowledge I now have. Either it's true or it's not. And I know, without any doubt, that it is true. And I leave my testimony in the sacred name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
